Clan Capital: your bottleneck is attendance, not layouts

How Clan Capital works, why Raid Weekend attendance decides your speed more than any layout, what to upgrade first, and the arithmetic behind both.

7 min read

Fifty members, six attacks each, three hundred attacks a weekend. That is the ceiling on how fast a Clan Capital can possibly move, and almost no clan is anywhere near it. The usual number is closer to half, and the usual response is to go looking for a better layout.

What is Clan Capital in Clash of Clans?

A village the whole clan builds together. It is made of districts, starting at Capital Peak, with more unlocking as the Capital Hall levels up. It runs on its own currency, capital gold, which is earned only during Raid Weekends and can only be spent inside the Capital.

None of it crosses into your Home Village. Different troops, different buildings, different progression. The one thing that does travel is raid medals, which you spend in the Trader on things your main account can use.

Capital gold is personal, the build is not

Every member earns their own capital gold in raids and contributes it to whatever the leadership has set as the current project. It cannot be donated or moved. That is the whole design: fifty small incomes, one shared queue, and one person deciding what the queue contains.

How Raid Weekends actually pay

The raid runs from Friday to Monday. Every member gets five attacks, plus a bonus attack for destroying the last building in a district, so six for anyone playing the weekend properly. Districts your clan has already flattened stay flattened for the rest of the weekend, so the clan works through them together rather than each person starting fresh.

Attacks that go unused are simply gone on Monday. They do not roll over, and they cannot be handed to a member who would have used them.

That last sentence is the whole guide. Everything else here is downstream of it.

The attendance math nobody runs

A full clan has three hundred attacks available every weekend. Here is what partial attendance actually costs:

Members raidingAttacks usedShare of your ceiling
50 of 50300100 percent
40 of 5024080 percent
30 of 5018060 percent
20 of 5012040 percent
15 of 509030 percent

A clan at 30 of 50 is not slightly behind a clan at 45 of 50. It is running at two thirds of the pace, permanently, and the gap compounds every single weekend.

No layout closes that. No attack strategy closes that. A member who improves from two stars to three on every raid gains their clan a few percent; ten members who start showing up gain it twenty. This is the same arithmetic that decides war results, and it fails for the same reason: nobody is counting.

Count attacks used against attacks available

Before you change a single thing about how your clan raids, work out what fraction of your available attacks got used last weekend. If it is under 80 percent, that number is your entire problem and nothing else is worth discussing yet.

What to upgrade first in the Clan Capital

The Capital inverts the Home Village priority, and for a clearer reason than most people realise. In your own village you upgrade defences because losing loot hurts. In the Capital, being raided costs you nothing you needed. Defences only shape how much other clans earn from you.

So the order is:

  1. 1Things that raise capital gold income. More districts open and more buildings standing means more to destroy and more paid out each weekend.
  2. 2The Capital Hall, once the districts you have are close to done. Same rule as at home: levelling the hall early raises every cap at once and leaves you behind on all of them.
  3. 3Attack-side upgrades, the buildings that improve the troops your clan raids with. These pay back every weekend, forever.
  4. 4Defences last. They are not useless, they are just the only category where a maxed building earns your clan nothing.

The exact district costs and unlock levels change with updates, and the game lists them accurately in the Capital itself. Read them there rather than from any guide, including this one. What does not change is the order of the reasoning above.

Capital armies and attacking

Capital attacks are short, the armies are fixed to what the district gives you, and the skill ceiling is much lower than a Home Village attack. That is intentional. A member who has never watched an attack guide in their life can still clear a district with a bit of care.

Two things matter more than strategy:

  • Send your whole army. The most common wasted attack is a member dropping half their troops, seeing the district fall, and walking away from buildings that would have paid.
  • Attack in the same window as everyone else. Districts carry damage across the weekend, so a clan that raids together finishes districts and collects the bonus attacks, while a clan spread thinly leaves half-broken districts sitting there.

Coordination beats execution here by a wide margin, which is unusual in this game and worth saying out loud.

Layouts, and being honest about them

Search volume for Clan Capital is almost entirely layouts. "Clan capital base layout" and its variants make up well over ninety percent of what people type, and they are served by pages that show a screenshot and a copy link with no text at all.

We do not have Clan Capital layouts in the base library yet. When we do, they will work the way the Home Village ones do, filed properly and checked against what they claim to be. Until then this guide covers the part that actually decides your Capital's speed, and a layout would not have been it.

How to fix attendance

Attendance is a leadership problem with a boring solution: someone has to notice, and everyone has to know that someone notices.

  • Make raid participation an explicit expectation when people join the clan, not a thing they discover after being kicked for it.
  • Post the weekend's numbers publicly. Not to shame anyone, just so the clan can see the difference between 180 attacks and 280.
  • Treat a member who never raids the way you treat a member who never wars, because it is the same behaviour and it costs the clan the same way.

Most clans have never run these numbers once. The ones that do usually find the problem is concentrated in a handful of accounts, which is a much easier fix than it felt like from the inside. A clan management system that tracks participation turns this from a monthly argument into a number nobody has to argue about.

See who is actually showing up

Paste a clan tag and see participation across the roster, so raid weekends and wars stop depending on whoever happens to remember. Free, and it does not need your account details.

Frequently asked

What is Clan Capital in Clash of Clans?

A village the whole clan builds together, made of districts that unlock as the Capital Hall levels up. It runs on capital gold, which is earned only in Raid Weekends and can only be spent in the Capital. Nothing in it touches your Home Village.

How many attacks do you get in a Raid Weekend?

Five, plus a bonus attack for destroying the last building in a district, so six for anyone playing the weekend properly. Unused attacks are gone when the weekend ends. They do not roll over and they cannot be given to another member.

What should a clan upgrade first in the Clan Capital?

Whatever raises capital gold income, then the Capital Hall, then everything else. Districts you attack from and the buildings that pay out come before defences, because a Capital that earns faster upgrades faster and a Capital that defends well earns nothing extra.

Why is our Clan Capital so slow?

Almost always attendance. A clan where 30 of 50 members raid is running at 60 percent of its ceiling, and no layout or attack strategy recovers a shortfall that size. Count attacks used against attacks available before changing anything else.

Can capital gold be donated or moved between players?

No. Each member earns capital gold in raids and contributes it to whatever the leadership has set as the current project. It cannot be traded, gifted or converted, and it does nothing at all while it sits unspent.

Does Clan Capital progress help my Home Village?

Indirectly. Raid medals spend in the Trader on things that do help at home, and a strong Capital is a reason for good players to stay in the clan. The capital gold, buildings and troop levels themselves stay in the Capital.
