Player tags and clan tags: how to find, share and look them up

Where your Clash of Clans player tag lives, how to copy and share it, how clan tags differ, why the # matters, and what anyone can actually see from a tag.

A player tag is your account's permanent ID, a # followed by eight or nine characters, handed out when the account is created and never changed after that. (Accounts from the game's first year have shorter ones, which is why #2PP is only three.) Change your name, move device, switch clans twenty times: the tag stays. It is how every tool outside the game, this one included, knows which account you mean.

Finding your player tag

1Open Clash of Clans and go to your home village.
2Tap your name and experience level in the top-left corner. Your profile opens.
3Your tag is directly under your name: # followed by eight or nine characters.
4Tap it to copy it to your clipboard. Some screens show a share icon beside it instead, which does the same thing.

The characters that trip people up

Tags use a restricted alphabet, and there is no O, no I, no S and no B in it. If you are reading a tag off a screenshot, the round character is a zero, the tall one is a one, the five is a five and the eight is an eight. This is the cause of most "account not found" errors.

You can also find your own tag from Settings, and other people's from the clan member list. Tap any member and their profile opens with their tag under their name.

Finding a clan tag

Clan tags work identically and are a separate thing from your player tag. Open your clan, tap the clan name at the top to open clan info, and the tag sits under the clan's name in the same place. Anyone can read it, including people who are not in the clan.

In ClanWarden the two do different jobs: a player tag gives you one account's rush verdict, and a clan tag gives you the whole roster ranked at once.

Does the # symbol matter?

In the game, yes, the tag includes it. In most tools, no: they will accept #2PP or 2PP and work out what you meant. It is worth knowing why the difference exists, because it is the same reason a pasted tag sometimes fails in a browser.

# is a reserved character in URLs, so everything after it is a page anchor, not part of the address, so a raw tag in a URL bar loses everything from the # onwards. Well-built tools encode it or strip it. If you paste a tag somewhere and get an error, dropping the # is the first thing to try.

No tag handy? #2PP is one of the oldest accounts in the game and works everywhere as a test tag.

What someone can see from your tag

This is the part worth being straight about, because "can people hack my account with my tag" is a question that gets asked constantly and answered badly.

A tag is public information. It is visible to everyone in your clan, everyone you war against, and anyone who sees your profile. It is an identifier, not a credential, and it grants nothing. What it _does_ let anyone do is read what Supercell publishes about the account through the official API:

Name, town hall level, experience level, trophies and personal best
Hero levels, troop and spell levels, and hero equipment levels
War stars, attack and defence wins, donations for the current season
Current clan and role, and your clan war preference
Achievements, and league and legend league statistics

Not your email, phone number, Supercell ID or any login detail
Not your base layout or the contents of your storages
Not anything that lets anyone do a single thing to your account

The actual risk is the opposite direction

Nobody takes an account with a tag. They take it with a login link you clicked, or a "free gems" site you signed into. Supercell will never ask for your credentials, and no legitimate stats tool ever needs anything except the tag itself.

Looking an account up

Once you have a tag, checking an account takes seconds and needs no login on either side. The account owner does not have to install anything, approve anything or even know you did it, because everything comes from Supercell's public API.

Paste a player tag into ClanWarden and you get a rush score graded against that account's own town hall, a verdict on heroes, troops, spells and equipment, and the three upgrades it should do next. Paste a clan tag and you get the same treatment applied to the entire roster, ranked.

If you would rather have the verdict delivered unkindly, the same tag also feeds the roast. The two reasons people actually do this: checking their own progress against where their town hall says they should be, and checking an applicant before letting them into a clan. The second is common enough that it has its own workflow. A tag in the application is what turns "seems active" into something you can verify in ten seconds.

Copy it, do not type it. Tap the tag in your profile. Every manually typed tag eventually contains a letter O.
Paste it whole, # included, into chat or a recruitment post. Tools strip what they do not need.
Screenshots are the worst option. The reader has to transcribe it, and the character confusion above is waiting for them.
In-game links work too. The share button on your profile creates a link that opens your account directly in the game for anyone who taps it.
