Clan levels, clan XP, and what the perks are actually worth
What every Clash of Clans clan perk does, which clan level unlocks it, why they all finish at level 10, and the three ways a clan earns clan XP.
Clan level is the number on the badge, the first thing a recruit looks at, and one of the least understood things in the game. Most people assume it works like a Town Hall, where a higher number keeps buying more. It does not.
There are six clan perks. Every one of them is finished by clan level 10, and nothing new arrives above it. Clans keep earning XP and keep levelling well past that, but a clan at twice the level gives its members exactly what a level 10 clan gives them.
That single fact answers most of what people are actually asking, so it goes first. The rest of this page is what the perks are worth on the way up, and what the number still tells you once it stops meaning anything mechanically.
The six perks
Five of the six are about donations, which is a fair description of what clan membership is for day to day.
| Perk | What it does | Finished at |
|---|---|---|
| Request wait | The gap between troop requests, from 20 minutes down to 10 | Level 7 |
| Donation limit | How many troops and spells you can be given at once | Level 8 |
| Donation refund | Gives the donor back a share of what the donation cost them | Level 9 |
| Donation upgrade | Donated troops arrive above the level the donor can train, capped by what the receiver can hold | Level 10 |
| Treasury | Extra storage for war, CWL and event loot sitting in your castle | Level 10 |
| War bonus | Extra bonus loot when the clan wins a war | Level 9 |
Which level unlocks what
The steps land on fixed levels, and they are not evenly spread. Nothing at all happens at level 1, and the two most valuable steps are the last two.
| Clan level | Request wait | Donated troop levels | Donation refund | Treasury | War bonus |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 20 min | ||||
| 2 | 15 min | +10% | |||
| 3 | 15 min | 20% | +10% | 10% | |
| 4 | 15 min | 20% | +20% | 10% | |
| 5 | 15 min | +1 | 20% | +20% | 15% |
| 6 | 15 min | +1 | 35% | +30% | 15% |
| 7 | 10 min | +1 | 35% | +30% | 20% |
| 8 | 10 min | +1 | 35% | +40% | 20% |
| 9 | 10 min | +1 | 50% | +40% | 25% |
| 10 | 10 min | +2 | 50% | +50% | 25% |
The donation limit rises at levels 4 and 8 and is left out of the table on purpose: it moves when Clan Castle capacity moves, so the level it improves at is stable but the number is not. Your own castle capacity is the more useful figure.
Which of them you actually feel
The donation upgrade is the one that matters. At clan level 10 a donated troop arrives two levels above what the donor can train, capped by the receiver's own limit. That applies to every donation every member receives, every day, forever. Nothing else on the list is in the same weight class.
The refund is the perk for people who carry the clan. Half your elixir back changes what it costs to be the person who fills every request, and heavy donors are the members clans lose first when donating feels like a tax.
The war bonus and the Treasury are real but quieter. 25 percent more bonus loot on a win is good, and it arrives only when you win, so it compounds with a clan that is already doing well rather than rescuing one that is not.
The request wait matters most to whoever needs it least noticed. Ten minutes instead of twenty is the difference between farming continuously and waiting around, and it is felt hardest by newer accounts who have not built the army to attack without help.
How a clan earns XP
Three sources, and all three need people to turn up.
- 1Clan Wars, which is the main one. XP comes from stars taken on bases nobody had cleared yet, with additional XP at the 40 percent and 60 percent marks of the stars available, and a flat bonus for winning. Bigger wars are worth more than smaller ones, so a clan running 30v30 climbs faster than one running 10v10.
- 2Clan Games, through the reward tiers your clan unlocks. The further the clan pushes, the more XP the whole clan takes.
- 3Raid Weekends in the Clan Capital, scaled by the league you are raiding in.
There is no fourth way. You cannot buy clan XP, gems do not touch it, and no amount of effort from one leader moves it. It is participation, converted into a number, over a long time.
Every XP source requires members to use attacks. A clan that levels quickly is a clan where people show up, because that is literally the only input. It is the same arithmetic that decides Clan Capital speed, and it is why attendance is the metric worth tracking rather than the one people track instead.
What the number tells a recruit, and what it does not
This is where clan level is genuinely useful, and it is not the reason people think.
Above level 10 it buys nothing. A clan advertising a level well above 10 as a selling point is advertising something that has no mechanical effect on you whatsoever. Take level 10 as the bar, because that is where the perks finish, and stop treating anything above it as a feature.
But it is still a real signal, because it cannot be faked. XP only comes from wars, games and raids, so a high level means that clan has genuinely been doing those things, with enough members, for years. There is no shortcut and no way to buy the number.
What it cannot tell you is whether any of that is still true. A high level clan that emptied out six months ago still shows that level forever. The level is a history and it never goes down, so it is evidence about the past and nothing at all about this week.
So use it in exactly two ways: level 10 or above means the perks are finished, and anything above that is a prompt to go and check whether the clan is still doing what earned it. The war log, the member list and how recently people were online answer that, and none of them are on the badge. That check is most of what vetting a clan or an applicant actually is.
If you are the one trying to level the clan
There is no strategy here, which is the honest answer and an unpopular one. Wars back to back rather than when someone remembers, clan games actually finished rather than abandoned at tier three, and raid weekends with most of the roster attacking. Do those for long enough and level 10 arrives. Skip any of them and it does not.
The one decision that helps is war size. A larger war is worth more XP than a small one, so a clan that can reliably fill 30v30 climbs faster than one spinning 10v10 to keep it easy, and the difference compounds over a year.

What do clan perks do in Clash of Clans?
Six things, and five of them are about donations: a shorter wait between troop requests, a higher donation limit, a refund of the resources you spend donating, donated troops arriving at a higher level than the donor could train, a bigger Treasury, and more bonus loot when your clan wins a war.
Are there clan perks after clan level 10?
No. Every perk finishes improving at clan level 10 and nothing new unlocks above it. Clans keep gaining XP and keep levelling well past 10, but a clan at double that level is mechanically identical to a level 10 clan. The number above 10 is history, not benefit.
How does a clan earn clan XP in Clash of Clans?
Three ways: Clan Wars, which is the main source, Clan Games reward tiers, and Raid Weekends in the Clan Capital. All three require members to actually participate, which is why clan XP cannot be bought or rushed and why the level ends up being a record of attendance.
Is a higher level clan better in Clash of Clans?
Up to level 10, yes, and meaningfully so, because that is where the donation perks live. Above 10 it buys nothing. A high level still tells you the clan has been consistently active for a long time, but it says nothing about whether it is active now.
How much clan XP do you get for a clan war?
It scales with the size of the war and how well you do. XP comes from stars taken on bases nobody had beaten yet, with extra at the 40 percent and 60 percent marks of the total stars available, and a flat bonus on top for winning. A bigger war is worth more than a small one.
